+++Some Spoilers+++This is rather a sweet story about childhood friends being "engaged" by their parents after one of their escapades goes awry. The h is a beautiful heiress who is forced to go into London after reading about her engagement in the papers. The H spends most of his time in London and is also alarmed when he reads about their engagement. The main characters are good friends who try to work out a respectable way to end their engagement. Thrown into the mix is the H's sister, who the h is staying with but she is going through marriage difficulties. The 'villain' steals the show in my opinion and I realised afterwards that he is the H for the next book "The Fortune Hunter". I actually read that book first and loved it. I enjoyed this story and the fact that it was clean.

Falling for Chloe Signet Regency Romance Diane Farr 9780451200044 Books Reviews
I could not put this book down. An excellent storyteller and I would gladly read her again and again.
A delightful book, with humor and believable situations. I agree with another reviewer that Gil's casual language is odd, even irritating, but he is such a positive person in other ways that it is minor.
I did love the deus ex machina nature of Lady Gilliland. She reminded me of the father who appears in several Loretta Chase books and serves as a secret matchmaker for each of his sons. A really delightful bit of humor and showing that the older generation knows better.
A sudden rainstorm forces Gil and Chloe to spend the night in a nearby cottage. Then someone places a notice of their engagement in the newspaper, and the pair must seek a way to end their engagement that will not damage their reputations. Since Chloe wishes never to marry, she plans to release Gil from his obligations. Gil, however, doesn't want to saddle Chloe with the reputation of being a jilt. Besides, when Chloe comes to London with a new wardrobe and finds herself surrounded by admirers, Gil is struck by the thought that she would be the perfect wife for him. How frustrating that she seems to be attracted to the same rakehell ladies' man that is destroying his sister's marriage!
On her part, Chloe is beginning to look at Gil as more than an old pal as well, but doesn't believe he reciprocates, so she sets about trying to help her friend--Gil's somewhat addlepated sister--save her marriage. Tish has taken up with one of the smoothest rakes around in an attempt to make her husband jealous, but only succeeds in driving the two of them further apart. In an attempt to prove the rake's true character to her friend, Chloe flirts with him herself, but finds herself way out of her league with this practiced seducer.
In the end, it is up to Gil and Tish's very wise mother to set things to rights with these two troubled pairs. A delightful Regency romp for anyone with a romantic soul.
This book caught my attention from the very first page. I like the authors's style of writing very much. The only complain that I have is that I ended up more interested with Lord Rival than the hero. I wish the author would spend more time on the hero and heroine's relationship. There is just not enough spark between them. Spoiler I was secretly hoping that Chloe would end up with Lord Rival and change him to be a better man. But hey, other than that, it is pretty good read and I found out that the author did write another book on Lord Rival. Cannot wait to read it.
I enjoyed this story. Best friends wind up engaged because of a notice published in the newspaper. They are not sure who sent the notice in. However, his mother really thinks they are perfect together and it is time to marry and start producing grandchildren. They fight it but the things they go through and experience makes for an interesing read. In the end love conquers all. It was a fun read and I enjoyed the book. A few minor bad guys but nothing to distract from the story and it had a happy ending. I loved it. I like to feel good when I finish a book and I did. Highly recommend for an entertaining read.
Overall, I really liked this book. It had some great character developments, and some intriguing side characters. Lord Rival is one interesting jerkhead, and I'm glad he's got a book of his own. Chloe and Gil are pretty run-of-the mill leads, but I ended up quite liking them in the end.
Oh, and I caught so many Heyer-references which made me smile and squeal throughout the book. Seriously guys, the Marquis of Alverstroke bringing out his beautiful cousin?!?! Plus, Tish and Robert drew so many parallels with the side couple in The Black Moth and These Old Shades that I *instantly* realized how it was all going down. Truthfully, I have to say that Heyer does it so much better in terms of writing and style, but I guess in the wake of such greatness Diane Farr is reasonably good, too.
It was worth the time and the money, and I don't regret it a bit, but do take the time to read a Heyer novel if you find yourself enjoying this regency.
Sweet story. Both H and h are nice people, clean romance. This book sets up the background for a secondary character, Lord Rival, really well. Secretly hoped he and Chloe would get together, because Gil is a little of a milksop. Learned later that Rival is the H in Fortune Hunter, which I subsequently love. Made me appreciate how hard he fell for the heroine in that story so much more.
