Mack Ericsson, a middle-aged press technician at an online magazine gets the bad news that he's been let go from his job after 22 years. He's sitting at the counter of a diner in Dallas, licking his wounds, when a young stoner plops down next to him and asks if he's heard the news about some strange happenings in another part of town. The stoner, named Derrick, whips out his smartphone and shows Mack a video he shot of what looks like humans turned to zombies. Soon after, Mack realizes zombies are breaking out all over. Not long after, he comes upon a 14 year-old named Amber, sitting alone in a car and shooting at anybody who comes near. Outside the car, her parents lie dead. Mack convinces her to give up the gun and promises to keep her safe. After they secure a cache of Digoxin for Mack's heart condition, they set off again trying to find safe ground. they head out West, looking for territory that is still untouched by zombies. Mack knows how to pick his battles as they navigate their way through this strange new reality. Along the way, this unlikely duo head west on a quest to discover who or what is behind all this in order to save themselves, and maybe the world.

The unlikely pairing of a middle-aged guy and a teenage girl gives depth to this well paced narrative. I liked the idea of an older guy helping out this young girl, who hides a very dark secret.

Brad Knight's passion for his story comes through in the well-developed characters, scene descriptions, plot twists, and surprise ending. It's a fast paced read and will pique the interest of anyone interested in the zombie genre. I highly recommend it.

Nano Z eBook Brad Knight Reviews

<SIGH> What do I say? The book had some really good bits in it but, the spelling and syntax errors, along with doubling up of words in places, really bogged things down at times. It truly needs some serious editing to make it flow better. And please. by halfway through the book I was ready to hurt somebody every time I read the phrase "meat puppets" yet again. As for the story itself, when it was good, it was quite good. The glaring holes in the plot, especially at the very end when the villain died and the hero didn't, left me scratching my head in confusion, though. In spite of all that, I think Mr. Knight has real potential as an author.
I would have given this 5stars but there were alot of things thats bothered me about this story. The number one thing was in the beginning Mack had to make it home to get his heart pills and I thought for sure that that would be a big part of the story, him and Amber running around trying to find more pills but it was only mentioned in the beginning and never again. There were other things that bothered me also about Amber I know she was a troubled teen but I don't get what that had to with her water boarding the man with the broken neck, didnt really understand that little part. All in all with a couple of tweeks this could have been an awesome read.
This is a different slant on the Zombie Apocalypse genre. It's different n hard to imagine but I have to agree, creative. The imagination of the author is definitely wild, vast, and totally bizarre in thought. Those readers who are hungry for a different take on the creation of Zombie will need to read this. If for no other reason, to let me know what they think. Even though I crave a fresh view to the cause of the out break, resistant is so bizarre that it caused me to lose the flow of the story. There are holes of time with in the book that feels as though the author lost interest??? Or maybe was just in a hurry to get to the explanation of how n why. For me it ruined the tension and flow. So read it, it's free, and see for yourself if you agree with me. After all, enjoyment truly is based on individual preference, right?
Spoiler Alert - This was a terrible survival story.

The way that the story worked out, the fact that the main characters suddenly found exactly what they needed the very moment they needed it seems way to convenient to me.

This was a decent draft, but should not be sold as a final draft. There were grammatical errors, problems with sentence structure, and spelling errors throughout this novel.

One thing that really bothered me, and I can't figure out how this makes any sense How did the arena get so full of people? Where did they all come from? And why would the people in the black SUV kill some people but save only the main characters? These chapters made absolutely no sense!
I have to be honest, this is not my type of story, Zombies yes love them, robots love them too. But Zombies with a touch of robotics, not so great.
During this tale there is a lot of unanswered questions, but no answers. The story is about big guy called Mack who meets up with a young girl by the name of Amber, Mack takes it upon himself to look after Amber.
At the beginning of the story Mack and Amber meet up and are trying to stay ahead of the Zombies, or meatheads as they are called, during this time frame a bunch of swat guys are killing everyone they find, but no reason why!
Mack and Amber get taken prisoner, and end up fighting robotised meatheads! Where do they come from, I have no idea.
So the story goes on and on, meeting new people and loosing new people, only at the end does some sort of explanation rear is head.
Again maybe I am not being fair to this book , but as I said it's not my type. Sorry.
