FINAL DECISION: This series is amazing. Funny and sexy and filled with adventure, this book is the story of enemies who end up falling in love with one another and overcome many obstacles of their own making.

THE STORY: Bowen Macrieve is a werewolf who has lost his mate over two hundred years ago and has lived only to try and find a way to bring her back. When he enters the legendary race to win the ability to turn back time, he is determined to win and save his mate. He encounters the mortal witch Mariketa the Awakened and is convinced that his attraction to her is caused by her magic. Mari is unable to control her magic well and doesn't know if she has influenced Bowen's feelings. The two are competitors and then enemies and their attraction complicates all these.

OPINION: I loved the tone and scope of this book. Bowen and Mari have some serious issues between them. This is not a sweet and gentle romance. There is serious conflict and they hurt one another -- literally. Their inability to separate themselves from one another makes this story very interesting. I especially liked the idea that Bowen may have destroyed his own happiness with his lack of contemplation.

The relationship between Bowen and Mari is sexy and funny and sometimes painful. Mari is barely coming into her immortality and as such is going through personal changes discovering who she is. Bowen is having centuries of belief challenged by the young witch. This book is all about growth and change.

WORTH MENTIONING: This book overlaps the events in the previous book NO REST FOR THE WICKED.
CONNECTED BOOKS: WICKED DEEDS ON A WINTER'S NIGHT is the fourth book in the Immortals After Dark series. It can be read as a standalone although the books are interconnected and are better read in order.

I enjoyed not only the romance between the two characters, but their interactions as well. I felt like there is always enough tension between her characters to keep the story moving forward. This isn't my favorite in the series, but it's up there! Kresley Cole knows how to keep the reader turning the pages.

Bowen is a twisted man after losing the woman for him. And then he meets Mari. Somehow he has been granted another chance at a mate. But how can that be? These two are fantastic to watch as he battles his demons and she tries to understand him.
I absolutely fell head over heels in love with Bowen and Marketa. Yes he acted like an ass trying to win the Hie, but he was never as mean to Mari as Lach was to Emma in book 1. He didn't spend much time denying his feelings for her and once he did try to win her he was amazing.. and annoying.. poor Mari.
The book goes back to the Hie and we see it from Bowens and Maris POV, i doesn't make us go thru the competition again it just leads us through some very important parts. The book is very fast paced and the plot twists are amazing and surprising for the most part
Kresley writes characters we want to love and we want to root for. Again I say that $6.99 is very steep for these books as they are all a little more than 300 pages. Also with some book series that have more than 10 books will offer a deal , first 4 books for $15 or something like that.. this series does not have that available and they are so dang expensive. I really wish the price was brought way down even if it just on the older ones. They are all $6.99 even the first which was written in 2006.. I think.
I will continue buying them because they are that good and even the price won't get me to knock a star off of the rating
Bowen has real and LEGITIMATE reasons for the fear and confusion that keep him from from fully embracing Mari (shocking and unsettling conclusions about his past at the end further justify this). But Mari's initial anger at what Bowen did to her during the Hie makes no sense. Bitch, it was a competition where you stake your life and you boasted about powers you didn't have; how you gonna be mad?

But what annoys me the most about Mari, and characters similar to her with similar hang ups,is her whining about boo hoo, I want to be loved for me, and not because someone's instinct draws them to me. What? I have NEVER understood how that's actually different from regular love. With one, a mystical force compelled you to pursue another and bind your everything to them, with the other, a mystical force compels you to pursue another and find satisfaction in them. What the f is the difference?
Needless conflict. But Bowen. Sweet, sexy, tortured Bowen. What a worthy male, even if his witch never quite measures up to him.
Uggggggh I did not like this one as much as the others and even thought seriously about quitting it halfway through. I really liked Bowe and even loved Mari, but they started bickering in the beginning and then NEVER STOPPED. It feels like I just read one long argument for 300 pages. The ending was great and they were really cute when it was done, but JEEZ.

Another major shout out to Robert Petkoff though, who continues to BALLER at narrating these books. His voices and accents are my favorite!
